Data analysis for performance optimization
Fortress Specialty Cellulose (FSC), 2018
Kraft dissolved pulp factory FSC in Thurso produces specialized cellulose for the textile industry. The dough is produced in reactors from wood chips and then goes through washing, bleaching and drying steps. For this process, the yield represents the weight of the dough to the finished product on the initial weight of the wood used to produce this paste. Yield is affected by the mechanical and chemical processing of chips and paste in the various stages of the process. It is therefore desirable to have maximum yield while maintaining the quality of production. Thus, FSC wanted to be able to monitor its performance and the variables that impact it to identify drifts and better control.
3E Eng. has been mandated to provide data analytics services to help plant technical experts identify and monitor variables that impact performance. The study also explained the causes of past performance losses and provided models that facilitated decision-making and budgeting. A page has been programmed on Pi Processbook to track the impact (negative or positive) of the various variables on performance as well as a predictive performance model.
About data analysis for performance optimization
Data analytics is a powerful tool to improve an industry’s performance. In a context where processes are complex and data to monitor is numerous, it can quickly become difficult to properly track all important indicators. Data analysis identifies important parameters and ensures that these parameters are normal. This allows you to react quickly in the event of a drift or to avoid reacting unnecessarily when you are in normal. Advanced analytical tools can also identify and correct inefficiencies in existing systems with very little investment.
