Protection Study
Factories, businesses and institutions all have an electrical grid containing many protection devices (such as fuses or breakers) ranging from low to medium voltage. These devices are necessary to isolate an electrical fault in a given area, to limit the extent and protect equipment (such as cables or conductors) against breakage or destruction.
It is important that these protection devices are well adjusted and coordinated between themselves. Otherwise they may not be able to isolate the fault, and they may even affect the protection of your electricity distributor. Additionally, if the adjustments are too sensitive, they may trigger unnecessarily at any time. To avoid the damaging or destruction of equipment, adjustments to the grid are necessary to prevent such events in an electrical fault.
It is thus important to adjust these protection devices to :
- detect and isolate an electric fault in their protection area;
- make sure it does not trip (lockout), in case of an electric fault, in the protected area, if other protection devices are located further downstream ;
- not trip on trivial events such as motor starting currents;
- protect the equipment against breakage or destruction in the event of electric fault on them.
At 3E Ing., we are able to perform a protection study and provide optimal adjustments to meet the rules set above. If you have a need for this purpose, for existing or new protection devices, do not hesitate to contact us. We will be pleased to provide you with our expertise.
